Creative Self-Care for Our Frontline Heroes: A Journey Forward with Empowered Art Therapy
Recently, Kerryn Knight, Founder of Empowered Art Therapy and Master’s-qualified Arts Therapist, had the privilege of facilitating a special workshop at Kindred Art Space for members of The Journey Forward – an organisation dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of emergency services personnel.
Through creative, experiential and expressive processes, the workshop invited attendees to pause from their demanding roles and tend to their own essential self-care. Using art-based approaches, participants explored new ways to connect with their inner resources, replenish their energy, and find moments of calm and renewal.
Kerryn’s facilitation provided a gentle and supportive space for these frontline heroes to reflect, express, and integrate their experiences — going beyond words to honour the emotional and psychological challenges of their important work.
“It was inspiring to witness participants embrace the creative process as a tool for their own wellbeing,” Kerryn reflected. “These moments of connection with oneself can have a profound ripple effect on how we show up in both our personal and professional lives.”
This workshop reflects Empowered Art Therapy’s ongoing commitment to supporting those in helping professions — acknowledging the critical need for self-care and resilience among those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.
